Cowboys fans can breathe a sigh of relief with DeMarcus Lawrence reporting to camp

DeMarcus Lawrence shows up to Dallas Cowboys camp after expressing concerns about COVID-19.
It was up in the air if DeMarcus Lawrence would opt out of the 2020 NFL season or not.
The two-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher for the Dallas Cowboys had contemplated opting out of the upcoming NFL season, on account of his wife being pregnant. However, Lawrence did show up to The Star in Frisco, Texas on Tuesday morning for the start of Cowboys training camp to receive his COVID-19 testing. NFL players have until Aug. 3 to opt-out of the 2020 campaign.
While there is still a chance Lawrence may end up opting out, Cowboys fans could exhale a sigh of relief that he was there for the start of training camp. Lawrence is coming off a down year with the Cowboys. He only had five sacks in 2019 after getting over 10 in 2017 and 2018. The Cowboys are without Robert Quinn, who signed with the Chicago Bears as a free agent.
Will DeMarcus Lawrence live up to lofty expectations in 2020 for Dallas?
Assuming Lawrence intends to play this season for the Cowboys, they could go as far as the NFC Championship game this season. Though there’s not a ton of variance for this year’s team, that is their upward trajectory. Dallas may hover around .500 again and miss the playoffs or they could play in their first conference title bout since winning Super Bowl 30 over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Should Lawrence approach 10 sacks in 2020, the Cowboys defense could be one of the better units in the NFC. If he’s going to play as he did a season ago, Dallas may not have what it takes to catch the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East race and miss the expanded 2020 NFL playoffs altogether. Maybe the New York Giants or the Washington Football Team aren’t terrible either?

This will be a new era of Cowboys football, as former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy takes over for Jason Garrett. McCarthy won a Super Bowl in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback. However, a lack of offensive innovativeness and growing frustrations with Rodgers led to his downfall with the Packers. He’s looking to bounce back in Dallas.
If Lawrence plays up to his potential, the Cowboys can be a playoff team in a deep NFC in 2020.
