Marquise Goodwin reveals heartbreaking reason for skipping 2020 NFL season
Eagles receiver Marquise Goodwin won’t be suiting up in 2020 and the reason why will pull at your heartstrings.
The 2020 NFL season is going to be unlike any other season we’ve seen before and we’re seeing the trend of players opting out of the season – for whatever reason – due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has thrown the entire world for a loop.
Marquise Goodwin of the Eagles is the latest to opt out this year and says that the reason he won’t be partaking is because of his family, in particular his newborn child.
Goodwin and his wife Morgan lost their son in November 2017. Goodwin went on to score a touchdown that day in what was an absolute gut-wrenching moment for those of us watching at home. We all felt for them at that moment.
With the NFL not operating in a bubble like MLS, NBA, or NHL and looking to do things more like MLB, players will be around both their team and their families during the course of the season. This means their chances of getting exposed is pretty high, which isn’t the case if a team goes in a bubble.
Goodwin’s decision to not play is because he doesn’t want to bring home COVID-19 to his wife or their daughter. He’s all about protecting his family and absolutely no one can blame him for that.
Players are opting out left and right and at the end of the day – That’s their right. Goodwin has gone through heartbreak as a parent and the last thing he would want is to bring that virus into his household and cause any more pain.
This is still only the beginning of players making the decision not to play football in 2020 and Goodwin is one of the biggest names to opt-out so far. When it comes to life though, no one can debate that family comes before anything, so good for Marquise Goodwin for making the best decision for him and his family.
