Michigan State basketball landed its second 2022 5-star recruit in center Enoch Boakye, as head coach Tom Izzo continues building a championship favorite.

The Michigan State Spartans landed their second 2022 5-star recruit, with center Enoch Boakye committing on Tuesday. With Boakye joining top recruit Emoni Bates, Tom Izzo has a stacked recruiting class which figures to make the Spartans a championship favorite in the near future.

While Boakye and Bates will not join the Spartans until after next season unless they both re-classify, Izzo has been on fire on the recruiting trail. Landing two premier players within the same month is reminiscent of Duke signing Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish all in the same season.

According to Jake Weingarten of Stock Risers, Izzo’s decision to fly to Canada to meet with Boakye in person was a meaningful gesture for the Ontario native, and may have been the deciding factor in the big man’s decision.

The Spartans figure to be ranked in the top 25 despite losing Cassius Winston once the college basketball season gets underway, but Boakye could put the Spartans firmly in the top five if he re-classifies along with Bates.

However, with the coronavirus pandemic potentially interfering with the beginning of the season, it’s possible that Boakye finishes his high school career. The star big man tweeted a photo of himself in a Spartans jersey shortly after committing and appears ready to learn under Izzo.

Regardless of his re-classifying decision, Boakye is a huge get for the Spartans, and the big man’s athleticism and ball-handling ability jump off the tape. He figures to bring a dynamic element to the offense and a dominant shot-blocking presence in the post.

He appears to be fully focused on his future at Michigan State as well. Per 247Sports, Boakye is thrilled to team up with Bates and plans to “bring a National Championship back home.”
