Patrick Mahomes brings his love for baseball to the Kansas City Royals.

What do you do after signing the biggest contract in sports history? Buy a baseball team, of course.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has become the latest member of the Kansas City Royals ownership group, joining up with his local club.

Mahomes has a deep history with baseball, so his interest in becoming a part-owner isn’t all that surprising, nor is the timing here. As part of the press release, Royals Chairman and CEO John Sherman, remarks on how Mahomes spent many years as a child in clubhouses and that his father, Pat Mahomes, spent 11 years as a Major League Baseball pitcher.

Speaking about the deal, Mahomes had the following to say, and he retweeted the announcement as well,

"I’m honored to become a part owner of the Knasas City Royals … I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do."

A three-sport athlete at Whitehouse High School in Texas, Mahomes threw a no-hitter his senior year and was even a top prospect in the 2014 MLB Draft before choosing to go to Texas Tech University. A selection by the Detroit Tigers was not enough to sway his opinion.

Mahomes continues to put his name in the record books on and off the field.

With this latest move, Mahomes becomes the youngest owner in sports history, adding yet another title to his name. It’s been quite an incredible offseason for Mahomes, as in addition to his payday and ownership, Mahomes also joined the Madden 99 Club, hit the cover of GQ and played a little bit of golf as well. Oh yeah, and he’s only 24-years-old.
