With the ACC’s decision to go forward with an 11-game schedule in 2020, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game between Florida State and West Virginia has been canceled.

The ACC made the decision to have their teams (along with Notre Dame, who is joining that conference for this season only) will play 10 conference games and then one non-conference game that takes place in that school’s state.

For Florida State, this eliminates their game against West Virginia, who they were slated to square off against on Sept. 5 in the Chick-fil-A kickoff game in Atlanta.

The Chick-fil-A kickoff game between Florida State and West Virginia that was to be played in Atlanta has been canceled due to an ACC ruling.

Depending on the SEC potentially moving to a 10-game, conference-only schedule, Florida State may also lose their rivalry game vs. Florida. However, they’ll play Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Virginia at home while traveling to Duke, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina State and Notre Dame who is a full-fledged member for 2020.

West Virginia will still play the entirety of the Big 12, as that conference plays everyone every year anyway, but it’s unlikely the Mountaineers face Eastern Kentucky either, who is currently still on their schedule.

It’ll be interesting to see how college football is conducted with the COVID-19 pandemic in full effect. We’re already seeing players opt out of the season and that number should grow in the coming weeks leading up to what would normally be the start of the regular season.

Fans of these two programs were looking forward to seeing their new head coach lead the team and to see how they did in that role. That will have to wait a little bit longer now, but hopefully, there is still a college football season to be had.
