Drew Brees is making a change pre-snap this year for the New Orleans Saints.

In the age of the coronavirus, we all must make adjustments in our lives, Drew Brees included.

The greatest player in the history of the New Orleans Saints will make a huge change to his game pre-snap ahead of the 2020 NFL season. Brees has become one of the most prolific passers in NFL history, as he’s Canton bound six years after he does hang up the spikes. This might be Brees’ last season in the NFL, but it’s going to look totally different for him at the line of scrimmage.

“Saints QB Drew Brees told Mike Triplett that he has been trying to cut down on his habit of licking his hands before every snap. “You don’t realize how much you touch your face and lick your fingers until COVID hit.” Who knew Brees was Gaylord Perry under center for the Saints? Now we all know and now we’re going to go wash our hands before we return to this aggregated news article.

Drew Brees won’t be finger licking good at the line of scrimmage any more.

It’s abundantly clear that Brees has baseball roots growing up in Austin, Texas. If you’re not playing quarterback in high school, you’re either playing shortstop or doing your best on the mound on the baseball diamond. Licking ones fingers is commonplace in baseball, especially if you’re toeing the rubber. Though it’s gross for Brees to do this, it’s probably a great idea he’ll kick the habit in 2020.

It may sound like a little micro adjustment, but this has the potential to throw everything off for Brees pre-snap at the line of scrimmage. Regardless of what sport a professional athlete plays, routines are important and for some, they are everything. While Brees will still throw a ton of touchdowns for the Saints this year, he make throw an extra pick or two because of this change.

The Saints’ Super Bowl window is still open, but only slightly. Brees isn’t getting any younger and why should be trust Taysom Hill to take over for him in 2021? There’s Jameis Winston on the roster, but that feels like a one-year deal while he looks to play somewhere else next season. Also, the Saints will be pushed in the NFC South by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons.

As far as we know, Brees’ digits will remain dry throughout the 2020 NFL season for the Saints.
