DE. 806. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 3. player. Highland Springs High School (Highland Springs, VA). Kelvin Gilliam

You can never have enough great defensive linemen at any level. One player the Nittany Lions really need to hone in on in recruitment is four-star defensive end Kelvin Gilliam from Highland Springs, Virginia. According to the 247Sports Composite, the No. 3 prospect from Virginia, the No. 7 player from his position group and the No. 104 overall recruit in the entire 2021 class.

Gilliam has 39 official offers, but is looking at playing for one of these six teams: The Florida Gators, the LSU Tigers, the Oklahoma Sooners, Penn State, the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Virginia Tech Hokies. Penn State is seen as a slight leader, with Oklahoma coming in at No. 2. It is interesting that an in-state Power 5 team in Virginia Tech is in on him as well.

Defensive line coach John Scott Jr. is seeing as Gilliam’s primary recruiter to Penn State. Running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider is serving as his secondary recruiter. Though neither has ever landed a five-star recruit before, both have landed a handful of four-stars over the years with Scott previously at South Carolina and Seider previously at Florida.

Overall, it’s still a bit too early to really speculate on where Gilliam will end up. He has six great schools to choose from, but we need to keep an eye on Oklahoma, Penn State and Virginia Tech these next few weeks. Could Florida, LSU or South Carolina creep back in the race? Sure, but it wouldn’t be shocking if he plays his college ball in Norman, State College or Blacksburg.
