Chase Young – Washington Football Team
Former Ohio State phenom Young will be aiming to replicate fellow ex-Buckeye Nick Bosa, who made the Pro Bowl in his rookie year in the NFL after being selected second overall by the San Francisco 49ers.
Bosa had the benefit of playing on a stacked defensive line loaded with fearsome pass rushers. Young, this year’s second overall pick, will have the same advantage in his maiden year in the league with Washington.
Including Young, the Washington D-Line boasts five first-round picks. Last season was Ryan Kerrigan’s first without double-digit sacks since 2015 while 2019 first-round selection Montez Sweat had seven sacks as a rookie.
With Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne and Matt Ioannidis on the interior, Washington will have the ability to throw waves of pass rushers at opposing offensive lines, and it is the waves featuring Young that are likely to be the most devastating.
Young is not as refined as Bosa was coming out last year but his incredible combination of burst off the snap and power arguably gives him an even higher ceiling than his former college teammate.
For all the tumult surrounding the Washington franchise, Young is joining the ideal defensive line on which to realize his potential and quickly establish himself as one of the league’s top defensive players.
