The three-game series between the Blue Jays and Phillies this weekend has been postponed

It only seemed like a matter of time before this news would drop. On Thursday, the Phillies announced they had both a coach and a clubhouse staff member test positive for the coronavirus in the latest round of testing. The team has shut down all baseball activities until further notice.

After having a two-game series with the Yankees postponed, the Phillies were set to take on the Blue Jays starting on Friday. That will no longer be the case, as Toronto skipper Charlie Montoyo has already come out and said the three-game set will be postponed.

The two clubs were supposed to meet at Citizens Bank Park, but you can go ahead and cancel any plans of watching them this weekend from your TV sets. This latest news on another postponement comes after the Marlins announced another positive coronavirus case on Thursday, bringing their total to 19.

With the Phillies news coming, the last thing the Blue Jays or Montoyo wants is for any members of the organization to be put at risk. That’s why postponing the series appears to have been a pretty easy decision, especially since it came in so quickly after the original Phillies news.

No make-up dates have been announced for when the two teams will end up playing these games. However, with more postponements and more players/coaches testing positive for the coronavirus, it’s hard to see the MLB’s 60-game shortened season actually being fully played out this summer.
