Phillies pause all baseball activities after coach and clubhouse staffer test positive for coronavirus
The Phillies had a coach and clubhouse staffer test positive for the coronavirus on Thursday
The Miami Marlins have been hit with a flurry of positive coronavirus cases, which has caused their season to temporarily be paused. Their cases came to light after they opened the season and traveled to Philadelphia for a series with the Phillies, a team who earlier this week reported no positive tests.
Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case. Moments ago, it was announced the Phillies had both a coach and a clubhouse staff member test positive for the coronavirus. Because of this, the team has decided to cancel its Thursday workouts, with all team activities stopping until further notice as well.
The Phillies previously had a series against the Yankees postponed due to coronavirus concerns
The Phillies were supposed to start a three-game series with the Blue Jays on Friday, but Game 1 of that set had already been postponed. Now, it’s not looking promising the rest of the series will be played either. This comes after Philadelphia previously had two games postponed against the Yankees as well.
Right now, Major League Baseball’s top priority needs to be keeping the players and coaches safe. With the Marlins now at 19 positive cases throughout the organization, and the Phillies also getting terrible news on Thursday, the league must do whatever is necessary to not put anyone at risk.
Things will only get worse for the Phillies, and Major League Baseball as a whole, if more positive cases end up being reported in the coming days for the team. Stay tuned, folks.
