This defensive tackle would be critical for Tennessee football

The fact that defensive tackle Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins has still not committed anywhere is actually surprising in itself. The Gaffney, SC native was initially set to make his announcement in May but chose, instead, to delay his decision indefinitely. He’s got a list of teams that he’s deciding between but that list has been changing. What we know is that Tennessee remains involved.

In the 247Sports Composite rankings, Ingram-Dawkins sits solidly as a 4-star recruit, the No. 17 defensive tackle and No. 284 prospect in the 2021 class. However, what’s interesting is that 247Sports alone is way higher on him, ranking him inside the top 100 overall recruits (No. 86) and as the fifth-best player at his position in this recruiting class. That speaks to the talent of the 6-foot-5, 298-pounder.

Ingram-Dawkins is simply a physical freak. He has tremendous length and has already put on a ton of good muscle in high school. More importantly, his explosiveness in the trenches make him a serious problem for opposing offenses. He has the toolbox to be a disruptor up the middle, someone who can stuff the run but also push the pocket and get after the quarterback off the interior as well.

South Carolina might be considered the favorites by some to land Ingram-Dawkins while other SEC schools such as Georgia and Alabama are in the mix with Tennessee as well. The longer he remains uncommitted, though, the more time that gives the Vols coaching staff to get after him on the trail and potentially land a star on the defensive line.
