10 toughest NFL stadiums to play in for road teams
3. Lambeau Field, Green Bay Packers
The oldest structure in the NFL today, Lambeau was opened in the hay day of legendary coach Vince Lombardi, 1957, and has been used by by the Green Bay Packers every year since.
Few things compare to the elements presented at Lambeau Field for opposing team: the home of the infamous “Ice Bowl”, the stadium often features “The Frozen Tundra”, which is brutal on bodies of opposing teams not used to the hardness. In addition, the fans are rabid and numerous – and with over 81,000 of them present for every, single home game, the environment is as hostile as any in the league.
“Lambeau Field has the perfect mix of history and the modern feel, while most stadiums are one or the other,” ESPN AFC North blogger James Walker said after listing Lambeau atop his ballot. “You can feel the ghosts there. The weather makes it tough. And, as with Heinz Field, the local fans do not sell their tickets. Opposing fans do not take over that stadium.”
The winningest team in the history of the NFL has made their living by packing their stadium to capacity regardless of the weather and having their fans often will them to victory regardless of the circumstances. And the home-field advantage has been great: As of the end of the 2019 season, the Packers have compiled a 243–123–6 regular-season mark at Lambeau Field. The Packers playoff record at home as of the 2019 season is 18–5.
