Barcelona give up on bringing Neymar back to Camp Nou
Barcelona would love to bring Neymar back to La Liga this summer, but club officials know they don’t have the money to make a move happen.
Rumors connecting Neymar with a sensational return to Barcelona began the minute he left the club for PSG. Unfortunately for fans of the La Liga giants, the Brazilian talisman will not be coming back to Camp Nou anytime soon.
Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu publicly squashed the notion of Barcelona re-signing Neymar to the press on Saturday. He admitted that the club tried to negotiate Neymar’s return from PSG last summer, but made it very clear that he will not make any attempt to sign the electric goal scorer this summer.
Barca’s financial troubles are keeping them from a Neymar reunion
PSG certainly don’t want to part with Neymar, but that’s not the reason Barcelona aren’t going to make any efforts. Instead, the club’s loss of revenue associated with the current global pandemic is to blame. Barcelona simply don’t have the transfer funds available to ink big stars this summer. Instead, the Spanish giants will be forced to rely on modest transfers and loans to supplement their squad for the foreseeable future.
This news should be celebrated by PSG fans. Neymar is a big reason why the French giants continue to have a stranglehold on Ligue 1. The combination of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe upfront is simply too much for other teams in the country to handle. PSG still have to prove their squad is good enough to experience Champions League glory, but they have a fighting chance to win any European match with such an explosive combination of attacking talent.
Don’t look for Barcelona’s decision to refrain from bidding for Neymar this summer to end the chances of him ever making a storybook return to the club. As soon as the club’s revenues begin to rise they will, once again, consider lodging a massive bid large enough to convince PSG to part with their global superstar. Neymar won’t be coming back to Barcelona this summer, but the door isn’t closed on it happening at a future date.
