The Chicago Cubs had an appropriate celebration Sunday.

Not all MLB players have been following the proper protocols during the 2020 season. That has led to several teams essentially being shut down and put the season in jeopardy after one week of play.

Such things as spitting and high-fiving have become glaring issues and teams have been given warnings about practicing social distancing as much as possible during games. The Chicago Cubs provided a perfect example of how to celebrate on Sunday after Javy Baez delivered a walk-off in extra innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Cubs celebrate from a distance

This type of celebration is what will have to do given the circumstances in the world with the COVID-19 pandemic. Yes, players still got close and surrounding Baez. However, there was no piling on him. Baez even held his hands out to tell his teammates to take it easy and remember the right thing to do.

MLB is not in a bubble so the precautions in place are not just to be socially conscious. They are needed to avoid any more outbreaks of COVID-19. Half the team piling on top of one another would be a terrible look for the game, but it could also lead to someone spreading the virus in close contact.

Playing games in general puts the risk out there of the virus being passed around. Taking small steps may seem like nothing, but they are in place to help. It is not too much to ask for players to celebrate without going insane for just one shortened season.

The most important thing from the game is the fact the Cubs won and improved to 7-2 on the season. The Cincinnati Reds are next closest in the division with four wins, but it should also be noted the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals have been on a hiatus due to COVID-19 exposure.

Playing in that division sends a strong message to the Cubs to be careful and the team showed off how to celebrate responsibly Sunday.
