Watch Josh Hart face plant right into the plexiglass
New Orleans Pelicans wing Josh Hart, meet plexiglass.
With everyone being required to wear a mask, socially distance and submit to daily COVID-19 testing, the NBA bubble is one of the safer places in the United States in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic … or is it?
In the case of New Orleans Pelicans wing Josh Hart, all those plexiglass precautions for the broadcast teams and stats keepers presented their own potential threat on Monday.
(Just kidding. Can you imagine actually getting upset about the safeguards in place on an NBA court that keep the league’s players, coaches, officials, employees and reporters safe when there’s a potentially deadly virus ravaging the country still?)
In any case, let’s watch a grown man go diving face-first into a plexiglass wall sitting court-side:
Luckily, no Josh Hart was hurt in the making of this video
You have to admire the hustle. When a player builds up a full head of steam like that, there will be no deterring that player from diving into the stands to try and save that loose ball.
At the same time … did Josh Hart not see his teammate Jrue Holiday standing right there? Holiday could’ve easily taken a step or two forward and snagged the ball before it went out of bounds, but instead, Hart cut him off as he went diving right past him, failed to save the ball and went careening toward the scorer’s table.
To be fair, Hart had a decent first half for the Pelicans in a must-win game against the Memphis Grizzlies, chipping in seven points and four rebounds on 2-of-2 shooting at the break. He’s always been known as a solid, young 3-and-D wing on the rise, and this hustle is exactly what New Orleans needs to see more of in Orlando.
However, it’s probably a good idea to dive for loose balls that are actually within reach, and hopefully for next time, this will be a useful lesson as to how close that plexiglass actually is to the action.
