Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty turns hotel room into makeshift bullpen (Photo)
Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty is making do with what he’s got.
MLB has a coronavirus problem, and with the St. Louis Cardinals currently in quarantine following a COVID-10 outbreak within the team, they’re trying to make do with whatever they’ve got to keep practicing.
Case in point: Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty has turned the hotel room where he’s quarantined up into a makeshift bullpen.
Flipping his mattress up against the wall and piling up some pillows to catch the ball after it hits the mattress, Flaherty is taking his devotion to the sport to a whole new level.
Props to the Cardinals pitcher for this one
You’ve got to love the sense of humor in these uncertain times, especially with Flaherty trying to turn a negative situation into some amusing content for Cards fans and all his followers on Twitter. You’ve also got to respect the Joe Kelly barb, referencing the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher’s bench-clearing antics against the Houston Astros, which included beaming a few batters, making an unforgettable pout face and hurling a few expletives their way. It also could’ve been a jab at Kelly breaking a window in his own home with a pitch.
The joke works either way, but in a controlled hotel environment, Flaherty is definitely right about not wanting to let any pitches get away from him, since he’d probably have to pay for the damages. Those lamps look awfully close to the mattress there, Jack.
In any case, the Cardinals ace will have to make do until St. Louis clears quarantine, especially since MLB’s coronavirus problem is looking as unwieldy as ever. Here’s hoping his neighbors in the hotel aren’t too annoyed by the inevitable thunk sounds they’re going to hear when Flaherty starts throwing heat at that poor mattress.
