Fantasy Premier League: What we know so far for 2020-21 season
By Jack Goodwin
What will Fantasy Premier League look like?
After the longest ever Premier League season finished at the end of July, we now only have to wait 5 weeks before we do it all over again – this time we’ll follow each game week as they happen but from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) perspective.
On Saturday 12th September 2020 the first round of Premier League matches will kick-off, giving us a few short weeks to anticipate which teams are going to come out on top early on.
Fixtures are yet to be announced, as well as the Official FPL site launch – but we don’t need them to begin theorising which players we’ll be bringing in to our teams.
The compressed fixtures we’ve seen at the back end of the 2019/20 season is likely a theme we’ll have going into the new one – with Euro 2020 postponed until Summer 2021 there is no real space for movement or postponement of any match – which – is great for us fans!
What that does mean however is that more than ever there will be a desire for squad depth, rotation of players expected to be more routine than ever before with the onslaught of matches taking its physical toll on players.
The end of the season is scheduled to be Sunday 23rd May 2021, only a few weeks after the usual climax of the League.
We haven’t had any news as of yet how club level tournaments (FA Cup and League Cup) are going to fit in, and also the Champion’s League and Europa League which will add yet another headache for managers.
Sergio Aguero, Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Timo Werner, Jadon Sancho? The FPL next season will be filled with far too many elite players, so much so that which ones you choose will likely be the biggest headache of the Summer. The FPL will price these players at the very high end, allowing only a couple to realistically fill our ranks – add to that the ongoing debate whether some of last season’s top players will be reassigned positions (Aubameyang > midfielder?).
In the coming week’s there will be preview articles on some of the Leagues new faces (both players and teams), we’ll have a beginners guide to FPL and of course when the official FPL site is open again for business we will share all the details on how to get involved yourselves.
Enjoy this break, once Premier League football is back up and running we won’t have much time to think about anything else.
