The captains for the Ohio State football team in 2020 have been revealed.

After making it to the College Football Playoff in their first year under head coach Ryan Day, the hype is through the roof for the Ohio State Buckeyes in year two of the Day era.

The Buckeyes have named their captains for the 2020 season and there aren’t many surprises here. Everyone knew Justin Fields would be a captain simply because he’s the quarterback, but the team also named Wyatt Davis, Tuf Borland, Shaun Wade, Justin Hilliard, Jonathan Cooper and Josh Myers as captains.

Ohio State football has some new captains

Fields is the big name in that group being that he plays quarterback and was a Heisman Trophy finalist last year (and likely will be again this year). Davis and Myers round out the offensive players in the captain roles with both serving along the offensive line. Both are heading into their second year with the Buckeyes.

Borland, Wade, Hilliard and Cooper are all on the defensive side of the ball and Borland is actually the second player ever in Ohio State history to be named a captain three times. Borland is heading into his fifth (and likely final) year with the Buckeyes and has had quite the career in Columbus, notching 181 tackles during his tenure.

Wade is going into his junior year and we’ve seen how well Ohio State corners have done at the professional level, so Wade should end up being a fairly high draft pick if all goes according to plan.

This will be Hilliard’s sixth season with Ohio State and being the oldest player with the team has made him an obvious choice to be elected as a captain. The linebacker will look to end his college career on the highest of notes.

Lastly, Cooper is also a long-time Buckeye and is entering year five of his college career. The defensive captains have been on the team for quite some time and have seen a lot of success during their time spent in Columbus, so it makes sense that they would be serving as captains in 2020.

Hopefully, there is college football to be had in 2020 and if there is, there’s no reason why the Ohio State Buckeyes can’t get back to the College Football Playoff. This time, they’ll hopefully be able to get to the end and win it all.
