Gary Patterson has apologized for his reprehensible language.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson finally responded to accusations brought forth by linebacker Dylan Jordan that claim he used the N-word during a team meeting, an incident that led to the team skipping out on practice. Patterson is begging for forgiveness as he works to better understand the consequences of his language.

Patterson responded to these accusations, calling his use of the word “unacceptable” before asserting that he and the program are committed to change in a positive fashion.

Gary Patterson’s comments came before a pivotal season

Patterson, who has been the head coach in Fort Worth since 2001, could still help TCU challenge for a Big 12 title this season despite the departure of stars like Jalen Reagor, Jeff Gladney and Ross Blacklock.

Max Duggan will get a chance to improve upon a shambolic freshman season, while the arrival of top recruit and 5-star running back Zachary Evans should help the Horned Frogs have one of the better ground games in major college football. As long as Patterson is on the same page with the defense, the defensive mastermind should have TCU near the top of the conference ranks once again.

Success on the field, however, shouldn’t mask the fact that this isn’t the first time Patterson has been accused of running an authoritarian program, as former receiver Kolby Listenbee recently settled a suit against Patterson and the school in which he accused them of abuse.

If the players accept Patterson’s apology, the Horned Frogs might be able to turn the page on a shaky offseason. With Evans shocking the world by committing to TCU, the Horned Frogs should make some noise in the Big 12 this year. Having said that, fans need to keep holding Patterson on the grill due to his propensity to stick his foot in his mouth.
