It was a scary sight for the Philadelphia 76ers as Ben Simmons exited against the Wizards.

The NBA‘s ambitious schedule of having teams play every other day was bound to rear its consequences eventually, and we may be beginning to see them.

Numerous players have suffered injuries over the past few days, with the latest being Ben Simmons. In a non-contact episode, Simmons spotted up on the perimeter against the Washington Wizards and pulled up afterward with a knee injury. He would not return to the game.

Fortunately, early signs are positive, as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that there is no swelling or pain for Simmons after exiting the floor. Regardless, Simmons is not the first player to face an injury, as many are beginning to feel the brunt of playoff basketball.

We need to remember that unlike the regular season, there are no easy victories in the bubble. Each of the 22 teams in Orlando is highly capable of winning a game, meaning that those who are jockeying for playoff position like Philadelphia, now in the 6-seed in the East, must leave it all on the floor with each game.

Ben Simmons is one of many to feel the effects of the NBA’s scheduling.

With the quick turnaround time for game days, it is no surprise that we are beginning to see the impact of the level of basketball being played, leading some teams to rest their best players and others facing injuries on the floor.

This was always going to be the fear of returning to high-intensity basketball after a four-month hiatus. The quality of play has been there, but the health will be tested. Luckily, Simmons seems to be in a good place with nothing more than a sudden lack of comfort, but we’ll keep our eyes locked on the health of the league’s players as the playoffs near.
