Rondale Moore opts out of 2020, leaving Purdue football behind for the NFL.

After only 17 games with the Purdue Boilermakers, Rondale Moore is turning pro.

Moore is the latest Big Ten star to opt out of the 2020 college football season. He joins former Minnesota Golden Gophers wide receiver Rashod Bateman and Penn State Nittany Lions linebacker Micah Parsons in his decision to opt out. Virginia Tech Hokies cornerback Caleb Farley and Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Gregory Rousseau have also opted out over in the ACC.

While not every blue-chip prospect is opting out and entering the 2021 NFL Draft, as LSU Tigers wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and Oregon Ducks offensive tackle Penei Sewell are playing in 2020, Bateman, Farley, Parsons, Rousseau and Moore decided to tie a bow on their college careers after only a few seasons. Moore tweeted out his farewell message on Thursday to the Purdue faithful.

Is Rondale Moore a lock to go in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft?

Moore was the most electrifying player Purdue football has had in decades. As a true freshman in 2018, he took home the Paul Hornung Award as the nation’s most versatile player. He earned First-Team All-American status, made First-Team All-Big Ten and was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. However, he only played four games in his true sophomore season in 2019.

Moore mentioned in his message to Boiler Nation that he is on track to graduate from Purdue University in an impressive 2.5 years. Even though Purdue wasn’t poised to make a ton of noise in the Big Ten West this year, it’s still a bit hard to process that the Boilermakers’ best player since, quite frankly, Drew Brees is turning pro after only 17 games in Purdue uniform. He’s ready for the NFL.

As for if Moore is a lock to go in the first round, that remains to be seen. Again, we’re only going off 17 games worth of tape at the college level. We know he’s an incredible return specialist, as he’s tremendously dynamic with the ball in his hands. By playing at a non-traditional power at a place like Purdue and being this well-known nationally, surely someone will take him in the top-32.

While Moore won’t play at Ross-Ade on Saturdays anymore, he’ll be starring in the NFL very soon.
