Jamal James vs. Thomas Dulorme started competitively, but James proved to be the better boxer down the stretch to win the day.

PBC on FOX made its pandemic return on Saturday, Aug. 8, with a welterweight WBA interim title bout between Jamal James and Thomas Dulorme. There was a lot of back and forth action early on, but James’s skills proved to be too much for Dulorme.

James (27-1, 12 KOs), 32, of Minneapolis, MN, came into the fight with only a single loss on his record. He won five matches in a row going into his interim title contest with Dulorme. James was the favorite, but most assumed that the matchup would be close.

Dulorme (25-4-1, 16 KOs), 30, of Carolina, Puerto Rico, had some losses on his record but also proved himself with wins against mid-level opponents like Hank Lundy and Karim Mayfield. Unfortunately for Dulorme, James proved to be a step ahead of those boxers.

In round 1, Dulorme set the tone as the aggressor. James was content with counterpunching on the outside, and those roles stuck for the remainder of the match.

For rounds 2 through 5, Dulorme did a lot of excellent work to James’s body with hooks from both hands. James let his hands go and scored a bit more than Dulorme, but his punches lacked the steam of Dulorme’s.

Thomas Dulorme started strong against Jamal James but faded badly down the stretch and had no answers for James’s counterpunching.

Dulorme’s Achilles heel was wasted energy. He bounced unnecessarily on his toes when it served no purpose, yet never moved his shoulders to avoid punches. He chased James around the ring but couldn’t cut him off during the second half of the fight.

Dulorme had a spurt of energy in round 6 but became sloppy for the rest of the bout. James’s movement confused Dulorme and made his punch accuracy plummet.

James isn’t a power puncher, but he effectively countered Dulorme from rounds 7 through 12. Dulorme lost all of his momentum and looked lost at times. He never gave up, but couldn’t find a way to sustain his attack.

The fight went the distance as James put on a boxing masterclass and out-landed Dulorme by 89 punches according to CompuBox statistics. They threw almost the same amount of shots, but James was far more accurate.

The judges scored the matchup unanimously for James. Dulorme tried his best, but James proved that he’s a tier ahead of Dulorme. Look for James to leap into the top 10 in the welterweight division. He has an interim title around his waist, but he might earn a shot at a major title going forward.
