The Boston Red Sox secure the series win over the Toronto Blue Jays via walk-off

When it comes to the 2020 MLB season, the Boston Red Sox haven’t had the greatest of starts. As it turns out, all they needed was to play the Toronto Blue Jays to cure what ails them.

After splitting the first two games of the weekend series, the Red Sox entered the bottom of the ninth inning in a 3-3 tie. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts reached first base on a walk by Blue Jays reliever Thomas Hatch. Mitch Moreland stepped up to the plate with the chance to secure the win, and he did just that. All it took was one pitch for Moreland to swing for the fences and send the ball over the Green Monster to secure the 5-3 victory.

More importantly, this was the first series Boston has won this season.

Boston now out of the AL East basement

With the win, the Red Sox have sole possession of fourth place in the AL East. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays sit in dead-last, something none of the experts expected to happen. If you needed further proof, just look at the Baltimore Orioles, who sit in third in the division.

Moreland has been one of Boston’s better hitters and his statistics increased after the game. Now, the first baseman is now batting .323 and owns a a ridiculous 1.299 OPS along with five home runs and 12 RBI.

Now, the Red Sox look to build on this momentum on Monday, as they host the rival Tampa Bay Rays.
