Juan Soto just hit the longest home run of his career.

Juan Soto has been back for less than a week, but he’s already making his impact felt for the Washington Nationals.

After being cleared to return to play following his positive COVID-19 test, which he believed to be a fake positive, Soto made his eagerly-awaited return to the field for the defending World Series champions. In his first game back last Wednesday, he made an immediate impact, hitting a double in the first inning to drive in the tying run and then laying out for a beautiful catch in the second inning.

On Monday, he added another highlight reel-worthy moment to his collection, not just for the 2020 MLB season, but for his entire career. In the top of the third inning, with the Nats already up 3-0 on the New York Mets, Soto clobbered a breaking ball from Steven Matz into deep center for a two-run shot.

At 463 feet, it was the longest homer of his career, sailing over the apple at Citi Field.

At 4-7 entering Monday’s game, the Nationals have had a brutal season thus far. The Mets haven’t been much better at 7-9, but it was clear the defending champs definitely needed one of their best hitters back in the lineup. Massive home runs like this just drive the point home further, especially after three straight losses to the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees coming into Monday night.

Hopefully Soto’s return helps Washington get its season back on track, especially now that Max Scherzer’s mysterious injury from last week turned out to not be anything serious.
