Kyle Kuzma hit a game-winning 3 for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Entering Monday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers were the worst-ranked offense of all 22 teams in the NBA restart. LeBron James and Anthony Davis hadn’t been their usually dominant selves, Danny Green had been an absolute train wreck and people were starting to wonder when the Lake Show would shake off the offensive rust.

Leave it to the oft-maligned Kyle Kuzma to help open the floodgates.

With the Lakers taking on the Nuggets’ second string down the stretch of a tight game, Denver tied up the score with 4.8 seconds remaining after PJ Dozier drew a blocking foul on Kuzma. Dozier made the first free throw but missed the second, giving the Lakers the ball back with 4.5 seconds left and a chance to win.

On the resulting inbounds play, Frank Vogel designed a beautiful set to free up Kuzma, who had 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting at that point, for the game-winning 3-pointer:

Kyle Kuzma was the hero of the night after his clutch game-winner

Kuzma finished his night with 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. He also chipped in six rebounds, three assists and two steals in his 33 minutes. The fact that he shot that tough corner 3 over the 7-foot-2 Bol Bol — who was out their looking like a Broncos quarterback early in the fourth quarter — is only the cherry on top of an impressive performance.

Although the Nuggets didn’t play any of their starters in the fourth quarter, it was good to see the Lakers’ offense start to click again. LeBron James had 29 points and 12 assists, Anthony Davis added 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting and even Danny Green knocked down a few 3s in the second half after another brutal start.

Kuzma has been one of the Lakers’ most consistent performers in the bubble, so even though his foul on Dozier was 100 percent a blocking foul, he earned the chance to take — and make — a big-time shot like that.
