Pac-12 reporter Jon Wilner tweeted that the conference’s final decision on canceling the 2020 football season will not come until Tuesday at earliest.
The Pac-12 has reportedly not made a final decision regarding the fate of its 2020 football season, per conference reporter Jon Wilner, despite numerous reports to the contrary in recent days.
Wilner stated that the decision would come on Tuesday at earliest, but other reports have made a season look increasingly unlikely. While it may be true that the decision is not yet final, all other reports have stated that it is all but certain that the Pac-12 season will be canceled.
The fate of the Pac-12 football season could come by Tuesday
Dan Patrick said Monday morning that he was hearing reports of both the Big Ten and Pac-12 canceling their respective seasons as soon as Tuesday, and ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said that both conferences appear extremely unlikely to have a season in the fall.
With some high-profile players pushing for a season and university administrators looking to pull the plug, the 2020 college football season appears to be on life support, at least for the fall. Some have floated the idea of a spring season, but it remains to be seen how practical that could be.
More likely than not, the Pac-12 and Big Ten will be the first two major dominoes to fall in the coming days. While the SEC appears hell-bent on having a season, the other Power Five conferences seem to be realizing that it simply may not be feasible.
Pac-12 players were the first to publicly call out inadequate health and safety measures, penning a letter in The Players’ Tribune to call for the fair and humane treatment from the NCAA and expressing concerns over both the coronavirus pandemic and exploitation of labor for the massive financial gain of their universities.
With the pandemic worsening by the day and other conferences coming to grips with a harsh reality, the Pac-12 season appears to be dead in the water.
