Tom Brady’s favorite target comments on the quarterback leaving New England for Tampa Bay

Deep down in our hearts, we just couldn’t fathom the idea of quarterback Tom Brady playing for any team other than the New England Patriots. But, with his career nearing its end and a desire for a lucrative contract, Brady left the Patriots and signed on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That means no longer will football fans see Brady wearing the signature blue and red, instead, swapping the uniform for some pewter and red threads.

Brady was wide receiver Julian Edelman‘s quarterback ever since he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Edelman says that even though he loves Brady, the Patriots simply must move on.

Edelman will have a new signal-caller targeting him in 2020

NFL fans shouldn’t be surprised by these comments. This is the prototypical “Patriot Way” style of talking with the media that head coach Bill Belichick has ingrained in all of his players.

Once Brady signed on with the Buccaneers, the Patriots followed their “next man up” mantra and talked up Jarrett Stidham as their 2020 starter. Even though no one was buying it, we all fell for it once New England failed to select a single passer in the entire NFL Draft. Just when we bought in, the Patriots emerged from the shadows and signed former Carolina Panthers quarterback and NFL MVP, Cam Newton.

Moving from Brady to Newton is a pretty good transition for a wideout like Edelman. But, it’s all dependent on Newton’s health, as he’s coming off shoulder and foot surgeries in the past calendar year. If he’s fully healthy, he’s an absolute threat through the air and on the ground.

As much as Edelman will miss “TB12,” he knows that everyone must move forward. In the immortal words of Belichick, “We’re onto Cam Newton.”
