The Big 12 looks be siding with the ACC and SEC on having a season.

The Big 12 may not reach a decision on Tuesday night, but it does have a pro-season feel to it.

With the Big Ten and the Pac-12 postponing their seasons until the spring and the ACC and the SEC pushing ahead with their upcoming seasons, everybody is waiting impatiently on what the Big 12 decides to do. If the 10-team Power 5 conference decides to move forward, then we will have college football this fall. If they vote against it, then everybody else will cancel their seasons.

According to Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star Telegram, the “conference is leaning towards playing this fall.” His source says the Big 12 feels more comfortable about having a season than it did a day ago, as this was said before the start of Tuesday night’s lengthy meeting. CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reported similar things ahead to Tuesday night’s meeting. The Big 12 might do it.

The Big 12 will tip the scales on if we have college football or not.

It’s only fitting to see the youngest Power 5 conference be asked to determine the fate of college football, now and in the future. Will the Big 12 postpone like the Big Ten and Pac-12 or press on like the ACC and SEC? While two Group of 5 conferences opted to cancel in the MAC and Mountain West, the AAC, Conference USA and the Sun Belt are more in the vein of the ACC and SEC.

Keep in mind the Big 12 came about after the collapse of the old Southwest Conference with four Texas schools linking up with the Big Eight. While teams have come and gone from the Big 12 in the last decade or so, it is up to the 10 university presidents to decide if we’ll get college football this fall or not. Everybody is waiting to see what this Power 5 conference decides to do.

There are three things in favor of the Big 12 playing this fall: They have multiple College Football Playoff contenders, these 10 teams are the biggest ticket in town and they have an opportunity to garner market share and strength when the Big Ten and Pac-12 come across as weak. In short, this conference is more like the ACC and the SEC than it is like the Big Ten and the Pac-12.

What the Big 12 decides will alter the course of major college athletics going forward.
