Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes gets postponed due to historic overtime game
The Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins have had their game postponed due to the Tampa Bay/Columbus overtime.
Game 1 between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes was supposed to take place at 8 PM on Tuesday, until one of the longest games in Stanley Cup Playoff history happened.
The overtime game between Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets took so long, they had to postpone Game 1 between the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins until tomorrow morning.
Since these games are taking place in the bubble, the ice needs to be throughly cleaned and the benches need to be disinfected before the next game can take place. This process requires an 87 minute turnaround, and with Tampa Bay and Columbus already going way over the 8 PM start time for the Hurricanes and Bruins Game 1, they had no choice but to postpone considering they have no idea when this game could even end.
This was always a possibility with playing games in two hub cities, but there is no way the NHL could’ve ever prepared for something like this to happen. As of 9:17 PM EST, the overtime between Tampa Bay and Columbus is the fourth longest in NHL history.
Game 1 will now take place at 11 AM the next day, and hopefully will not affect any of the other games taking place in the Toronto hub city that day. The series will be a rematch of last years Eastern Conference Final, where the Bruins swept the Hurricanes en route to the Stanley Cup Final.
