Damian Lillard makes NBA history with 61-point night in win over Mavs
Damian Lillard scored 61 points to lead Portland to a 134-131 victory over Dallas on Tuesday night.
Paul George and Patrick Beverley very well may have woken up a monster in Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard.
After the Clippers beat the Blazers last week, both George and Beverley did everything they could to try and troll Lillard and get inside of his head. Well, fast forward to Tuesday night, and Lillard put up a performance that will be sure to shut up the two Clippers players, as he made history in the process as well.
In Portland’s heart-stopping 134-131 win over the Dallas Mavericks, Lillard dropped a mind-numbing 61 points to lead his team to victory. It’s Lillard’s third 60-point showing this season, making him only the second player in league history to reach that mark. He joins Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlin on the list.
Lillard is once again in the middle of an incredible NBA campaign. Thus far in 2019-20, the Weber State product is averaging 29.3 points and eight assists per game. He’s also shooting 45.9 % from the floor and 39.3 % from 3-point land.
The NBA announced its MVP finalists last week, with LeBron James, James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo making the cut. Lillard may not have made the final three, but the statement he made with his 61-point showing against the Mavs was a fresh reminder to everyone in the league that he’s one of the best in the business.
Between Skip Bayless, George and Beverley angering Lillard, you could tell ‘Dame’ was out to prove a point against the Mavericks. That point has most certainly been made, as Portland took down Dallas in an incredible showdown, and Lillard made some incredible history for fans across the country to enjoy too.
