Patrick Mahomes and his new $500 million self are ready for Week 1

Just weeks after signing the largest contract in American professional sports history, Mahomes is more than ready for the Chiefs Week 1 matchup against the Houston Texans. The greatest of expectations have now been placed squarely on Mahomes’ shoulders, and not just because of his contract status. The 24-year-old is fresh off a Super Bowl MVP campaign, and a regular season MVP the season before that. In terms of accolades, there’s not a whole lot more he can accomplish at such a young age.

Nonetheless, Brett Veach and the Chiefs have given Mahomes the keys to the franchise, in hopes of reaching dynasty status. While one Super Bowl doesn’t ensure them of that, the Chiefs have done their best to lock up the important skill position players around Mahomes long-term, as well as some key contributors on the defensive side of the ball (Chris Jones).

KC’s impressive offseason has Mahomes ready to go

It’s tough to believe we’re only one month away from professional football, especially after the longest of Springs and Summers dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Such fears haven’t been fully eliminated by any stretch of the imagination, but the NFL is here to return us to some semblance of normalcy, even if far from it.

While many players have opted out of the season — as is their right — the NFLPA and NFL have enacted safety measures that will attempt to make this year as secure as ever. Mahomes and those who remain in the field know what they’re signing up for. Hopefully, it all goes according to plan.
