Oklahoma announces capacity for 2020 football games, options for season ticket holders
Oklahoma football games will be operating at 25 percent capacity as the Sooners adjust to social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oklahoma football games will have a much different look than normal. While the Sooners football games are usually packed with fans in the stands, that won’t be the case in 2020 as the school is forced to reduce capacity due to the ongoing concerns with the spread of the coronavirus.
As a result, capacity at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium will be capped at 25 percent capacity, the school said in a statement on Wednesday. This means there will be about 21,000-22,000 fans at games this fall.
“This is the next step in our preparation efforts,” said OU Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione, “but it is by no means the only step. We have been and will continue working on protocols that will be in place for our student-athletes, staff and patrons. The capacity reduction will allow us to create distancing in the seating bowl. Other policies in the stadium will be introduced as we alter our operations as a result of the COVID-19 virus.”
Season ticket holders will have received emails about their ticket needs for the coming season. Further information will be provided for those planning to attend games so they can be prepared for all the new guidelines and requirements so that they may enjoy a safe game-day experience.
Further, a new app will be available that will allow for digital ticketing information, parking assistance and other helpful tools for fans.
Oklahoma football will have five home games this year as part of their reduced 10-game schedule and separate instructions will be provided later for the game vs. rival Texas that will take place at the Cotton Bowl.
