The younger brother of welterweight contender Gilbert Burns, Herbert Burns found some success in ONE Championship and Titan FC before submitting Darrick Minner on Dana White’s Contender Series to earn a UFC contract. The younger Burns brother had competed twice this year entering tonight, scoring first-round finishes of Nate Landwehr and Evan Dunham at UFC Raleigh and UFC 250, respectively.
This was Pineda’s return to the UFC after originally competing in the promotion between 2012 and 2014, when he went just 3-4 before being released. He then won eight of 10 while bouncing around between the LFA/LFC, Bellator and Fury FC before being a late, replacement entry into the PFL’s 2019 featherweight tournament. He scored finishes of both Movlid Khaibulaev and Jeremy Kennedy on the same night to reach the tournament final but was pulled from the New Year’s Eve card — and those two wins overturned to no contests — after failing a drug test.
