Auburn football: 5 breakout players to watch in 2020
By John Buhler
When your name is Big Kat Bryant, people know you mean business. Bryant’s older cousin Montravius Adams starred down on The Plains before him in the trenches. Entering his senior season out of Cordele, Georgia, it is Bryant’s time to make the most of his Auburn career. Can he put some respect on that awesome name of his?
Bryant is 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, entering his fourth year in Kevin Steele’s defense. With Derrick Brown, Nick Coe and Marlon Davidson all playing professionally these days, it is time for someone like Bryant to step up in a big way. He may have started along the defensive line last year, but he only had 16 total tackles (10 assists, six solo), two for a loss of yardage and 1.5 sacks.
With only 39 total tackles, 8.5 for a loss of yardage and seven being for sacks in three years with Auburn, Bryant has not had the production to become a superstar in the SEC. Frankly, it may not ever happen. However, you have to understand that plays will be had in the trenches for Auburn with three key players from last years defensive line no longer on the team. Bryant has to step up.
What may end up helping him is the Auburn defensive backfield should be pretty good. If he can get a few coverage sacks, he can salvage an otherwise unproductive career at Auburn. If Bryant isn’t racking up numbers on the stat sheet, then perhaps he can be a space-eater to allow the other defensive linemen around him to thrive? It’s his last year at Auburn and it’s a big one for him.
