AJ Green tweaks hamstring in Bengals practice Monday

The Cincinnati Bengals star receiver A.J. Green is dealing with another injury in training camp.
Entering the 2020 offseason, the Cincinnati Bengals were destined to change their poor fortunes in recent years, and that began with selecting LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the first-overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Bengals fans were blushing at the thought of the reigning Heisman Trophy winner dropping dimes to star receiver AJ Green during training camp. Well, that’s going to be put on a pause for the time being.
According to Jay Morrison of The Athletic, Green tweaked his left hamstring and was held out for the remainder of practice. Head coach Zac Taylor said he pulled Green out of drills for “precautionary” reasons.
Green hasn’t had luck staying healthy for a full season.
When it comes to the preseason and Green, both are like oil and water. They simply don’t mix. Just last year, Green tore ligaments in his ankle due to the shoddy conditions of the University of Dayton’s football field. While initially believed to just miss the start of the 2019 season, there was no progress in his rehabilitation, and the team placed him on the injured reserve, thus ending his campaign.
Green was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the start of this league year. However, the Bengals had big things planned for their former 2011 first-round selection, and placed the franchise tag on him, worth $18.2 million. Green signed the tender right before the July 15 deadline to let the world know that he’s all-in on the Bengals this season.
The last time Green played in meaningful football games was in 2018. Through nine games, Green caught 46-of-77 targets for 694 yards and six touchdowns. That campaign was cut short after he dealing with a toe injury.
This hamstring tweak doesn’t appear to be too serious as of this writing, but best believe that all eyes will be on Green throughout the week to see when and if he can practice again.
