Florida football schedule 2020: Can Gators take back the SEC East?
The Florida football schedule is out and the Gators have a manageable road for Dan Mullen’s team to win the SEC East behind quarterback Kyle Trask leading the way.
This could be the year Florida football wins back the SEC East after seeing rival Georgia be crowned as champions of the east for the last three years. The Gators are looking for their first division title since they won back-to-back titles under Jim McElwain in 2015 and 2016.
The Florida football schedule does set up somewhat in favor of the Gators running the table and representing the East in the SEC Championship Game that is scheduled for Dec. 19. After avoiding Alabama with the revised schedule that added two more opponents due to the cancelation of non-conference games like the annual rivalry game with Florida State, the Gators have one of the easier schedules in the entire conference.
Home games: Kentucky, LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Arkansas
Road games: Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Georgia (Jacksonville, FL)
Florida football schedule sets up nicely for the Gators to win their first SEC East title since 2016
Florida opens the season with a trip to Ole Miss on Sept. 26, but other than the neutral-site game with Georgia, the toughest road game is at Texas A&M and Tennessee. Those aren’t too intimidating for Kyle Trask and the Gators.
The most important game is the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party vs. Georgia. If the Gators can win this game, they’ll all but be locks for the SEC Championship Game where they could be faced with a game against Alabama. Because of the Big Ten and Pac-12 postponing their seasons, both teams could be locks for the playoff provided they are both undefeated entering that game.
This is going to be a wild season and luck will play a big role in the most successful teams, but I think this is a year for Florida football fans to be the most optimistic they’ve been in years. Having continuity at the coaching staff and at quarterback is a big part of that.
