Desmond King isn’t starting anymore with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Los Angeles Chargers are banking on one of the league’s best secondaries carrying them to wins in 2020, as they convinced former Denver Broncos star Chris Harris to join a defensive backfield that already had Derwin James, Casey Hayward and Desmond King, who has 6.5 sacks and four interceptions during his first three seasons in the league.

Unfortunately for King, who will be a free agent at the end of this season, he appears to have fallen out of favor with Gus Bradley. Harris has taken over the starting slot cornerback role in LA’s base nickel defense, while Michael Davis and Hayward are starting outside, per Evan Silva.

The Chargers might have surprisingly removed King from their future plans, but that doesn’t mean the other 31 teams in the NFL should pass him by. Considering he might be available for a discount given his impending free agency, these three teams should be able to acquire him relatively cheaply.

These three teams should try to trade for Desmond King.

The New York Giants were going to be thin at cornerback even with a quiet offseason, but DeAndre Baker living out his Grand Theft Auto fantasies coupled with Sam Beal opting out of the season has left former Carolina Panthers corner James Bradberry as the lone bastion of competence. If the Giants are intent on keeping Julian Love at safety, the team’s starting cornerbacks right now are Bradberry, Grant Haley and Montre Hartage. Yikes.

While King is best served in the slot, his uncommon versatility could allow him to take some snaps as a boundary corner on the outside. For a coach in Judge that has made a point of prizing versatility and hard work, he won’t find a better corner to fit that mold. If the Giants ink him to an extension, he and Bradberry could be a formidable duo on the outside.
