4. The Cowboys have a loaded defense

The old adage goes that defense wins championships and the Cowboys have a lethal unit. The key to the whole group starts up front, where Demarcus Lawrence is one of football’s most feared pass rushers.

Having Lawrence wreck games is nice and the Cowboys can follow that up with a tremendous linebacking corps. Health is an issue with it as Leighton Vander Esch and Sean Lee have missed time, but if they can stay on the field it will be huge.

The Cowboys have done a very good job loading their defense with talent, a process that continued with the NFL Draft. Adding Trevon Diggs in the second round was a big help for a unit that lost Byron Jones in free agency this spring.

This group will also gain a ton by being well-rested as the offense controls the clock. For a unit that has as much speed and talent as the Cowboys do, that is a frightening prospect for opposing offenses.
