Tottenham have been strongly linked with a swoop for Leon Bailey this summer. His arrival in London has sparked a lot of excitement for Spurs fans.

Bayer Leverkusen’s failure to secure Champions League football for next season has Leon Bailey looking for a new club. Tottenham are one of several English sides interested in acquiring his services. The fact that he’s chosen to visit London personally on Tuesday has Spurs fans excited about his potential acquisition.

Bailey certainly didn’t do anything to hide the location of his most recent vacation. On the contrary, he posted a photo on his personal Instagram account announcing his arrival in London. It’s a move that both the player, and his representatives surely knew would stoke the rumors of an impending move to Tottenham.

In fairness, Spurs aren’t the only London side that have been linked with Bailey this summer. Chelsea have also been mentioned as a club of interest. However, it’s much more likely that the Blues are going to limit their transfer conversation with Leverkusen to the subject of Kai Havertz. Including Bailey in those discussions might obscure Chelsea’s ability to secure their top target.

Tottenham’s ability to ink a player of Bailey’s quality will likely depend on the club’s ability to offload some fringe players on the roster. Erik Lamela played a key role for Jose Mourinho last season, but the club are happy to let him go if a sizeable offer is received. The same goes for Moussa Sissoko who is starting to age out of the ideal range for a quality Premier League starter.

Leverkusen are not going to give Bailey away for a cut-rate fee. One need only look at how difficult they’ve been with Chelsea on the terms for Havertz to see how they’ll treat their young winger. If Tottenham, or any club want to ink the pacy attacker this summer, they’ll need to make a bid of at least £40 million.
