LSU target and SEC legacy, Arch Manning, named No. 1 QB recruit for 2023
By Mike Luciano
Arch Manning has been named the top quarterback recruit in the country.
The Manning family is considered the first family of football by many, and with good reason. Archie became synonymous with the New Orleans Saints, while sons Peyton and Eli are on their way to the Hall of Fame. NFL and college fans alike will not have to wait long to see another Manning come along and dominate, as LSU target Arch Manning, the son of Cooper Manning, has been declared one of the best high-schoolers in the country.
Manning will not be short on hype as he looks to make a name for himself at Isidore Newman, as 247Sports ranked the third-generation Manning as the No. 1 quarterback in the country for the 2023 class. He is also the No. 5 overall player in America, as well as the top player in the state of Louisiana.
LSU is among the SEC programs in hot pursuit of Arch Manning
While Peyton shocked some by going to Tennessee, the Manning family legacy is interwoven with Ole Miss. Archie is revered as a Rebel he ended up getting a street on campus named after him where the speed limit is his former jersey number, while Eli set several passing records before getting picked No. 1 overall in the 2004 Draft. Even Cooper ended up in Oxford as a wide receiver before injuries curtailed his football career.
While Arch might pave his own path with the Bayou Bengals, every SEC school will at least make an attempt for a player of his caliber. While there is only so much that can be gained from watching highlights of a freshman in high school, the fact that he’s already assumed a starting job at one of the most competitive high schools in the state of Louisiana is a sign he could be destined for stardom wherever he chooses to play his college football.
Manning is coming off a season in which he threw 34 touchdowns and just six picks as a freshman. If he’s half of the player either Peyton or Eli was at the collegiate level, LSU (or whoever lands his commitment) might have someone capable of etching his name all over their record books.
