Paul Pierce had some laughable comments about LeBron James.

Paul Pierce clearly has some unresolved issues with his own legacy. That is the only explanation for why he continually comes at LeBron James and says things about the Los Angeles Lakers star’s own legacy.

The Lakers dropped their playoff opener Tuesday night to the Portland Trail Blazers and the hot takes came out right away. Pierce got in on the action with a ridiculous claim about this loss and what losing this series would mean for James. Once again, it was only the first game of the series.

Paul Pierce needs to slow down

Pierce is directly attacking James’ entire legacy after a Game 1 loss. This was a game in which James had 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 16 assists. So how could such a performance negatively affect a legacy?

The former Boston Celtic goes on to reiterate he does not see James as a top five player all time. While such arguments are filled with opinions and personal bias, it is odd to see Pierce reduce James’ entire career to one game against the Blazers in unique circumstances.

One player can only do so much and that was the story of James’ career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tuesday night saw Anthony Davis score 28 points, Kyle Kuzma finish with 14, and Danny Green go 4-12 from the floor for 10 points. Then there was Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finishing with one point in 29 minutes.

Pierce’s comments make it easy to question if he truly believes such things or if he is just trying to get a reaction. James’ legacy wouldn’t be tarnished even if he lost the series and played terribly. He has done too much throughout his career for the bubble playoffs to diminish everything he has accomplished.

Next. Adjustments for all the NBA’s Game 1 losers. dark

This is unfortunately another example of a former player bashing a current player. This doesn’t help build the game at all and just makes Pierce look bitter and out of touch with reality.
