Robbie Gould has an interesting take on kicking without fans

San Francisco 49ers Kicker Robbie Gould believes wind will affect kicks with no fans in stands.

Kickers are people too. Even they have to adjust to a stadium without fans present in the COVID-19 era. According to Pro Football Talk’s Darin Gantt, Robbie Gould said on NFL Network that having no fans in the stands will change the way the wind blows in stadiums. That effect on a kicker could go either way.

The 15-year veteran from Penn State signed a four-year, $19 million deal back in July. He was acquired in free agency in 2017. He is the Chicago Bears franchise leader in total scoring (1,207 points), made field goals (276), made field goals of 50-or-more yards (23) and field goal percentage (85.4). A kicker needs to be clutch in the postseason and that’s what Robbie Gould has been. In ten career postseason games, has converted all 15 of his field goals and all 29 of his point-after attempts.

Robbie Gould has a good point about fans affecting the kicking game.

He went on to say that more film may have to be watched of game kicks during the season and more pre-game adjustments will have to be made. He doesn’t anticipate this big change having an effect on his game. Last season he made 23 of his 31 field goal attempts (74 percent). The five-time NFC Special Teams Player of Month should continue to be a vital part of the 49ers winning ways.

The San Francisco 49ers are one-year removed from a Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The good news is they have re-signed their best offensive weapon in George Kittle and their defense isn’t likely to lose a step. Expect Arik Armstead, Nick Bosa, and other guys on that defense to be even hungrier in 2020. The San Francisco 49ers will open the season at home against the Arizona Cardinals Sep. 13.
