Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres left Thursday’s game against the Rays with an apparent leg injury.

Unfortunately for the New York Yankees, injuries have become all too common for their star players in recent years. We’ve seen things go south for Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge, but young second baseman Gleyber Torres has been able to stay pretty dang healthy.

Fast forward to Thursday and the narrative has changed. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound infielder was running out a groundout but appeared to stumble trying to run to first. He looked to tweak something during that run and is now out of the game.

The severity of Torres’ injury hasn’t been revealed yet, but he sure looked to be in some discomfort in the clip showcased above.

For the Yankees, they’ve already seen stars Zack Britton, DJ LeMahieu, Judge and Stanton go down with injuries this campaign. Adding Torres to the list is the last thing Aaron Boone and the rest of his coaching staff needs to see right now.

Thus far in 2020, Torres hasn’t quite been his usual self, as he’s posted a .237 batting average and has one home run in 89 at-bats. Last campaign, his second full season in the Bronx, Torres hit .278, with 38 home runs and 90 RBI. He’s also been to the All-Star Game in back-to-back years.

With so many injuries to the Yankees right now, it’s understandable for fans to be in a bit of panic mode. Fortunately for the Bronx Bombers, they’re 16-8 on the year and remain in first place of the AL East standings of this writing.

Once the postseason rolls around, assuming they make it, the Yankees will need to remain healthy, though. The club is hoping to bring home another World Series and they’ll need the team as close to 100 percent as possible to get that job done.
