New Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has been left quite impressed with Aldon Smith early on in camp.

When the Dallas Cowboys decided to give defensive end Aldon Smith a second shot in the NFL, many folks out there wondered just what in the world Jerry Jones and the rest of the front office were thinking.

Smith, no doubt a talented player, had been out of the league since 2015 following multiple run-ins with the law and a one-year suspension from the NFL for violating the substance-abuse policy.

Early on in training camp, however, Smith appears to be taking full advantage of the second chance Dallas has given him, with new head coach Mike McCarthy speaking glowingly about the 6-5, 255-pound standout.

Aldon Smith continues to impress the Dallas Cowboys coaches with his strong play

McCarthy didn’t mince words, saying, “If you walked away from practice, you would say, ‘Hey, who the hell is No. 58?’ You can see his power, his length is extraordinary. …I’m very happy with where Aldon is right now.”

Those are the words that should unquestionably jack up Cowboys fans everywhere. Again, many fans were skeptical of the signing given Smith’s troubled past, but it’s been an incredibly positive sign to see him performing so well in camp.

For the Cowboys, they’re hoping the veteran DE can help the defensive line take a giant step this season and continue to get Dak Prescott and the offense back on the field early and often throughout games.

Dallas will once again have monster expectations this year, while at the same time they’ll look to wipe away the terrible memories of missing out on the playoffs in 2019 after posting a 8-8 record.

With Week 1 of the 2020 campaign about three weeks away, everyone in Dallas is chomping at the bit to see what this team can accomplish this fall and winter. Thus far, things are looking strong, with Smith providing extra excitement over in Arlington.
