5 best players available before the MLB trade deadline
By Mike Luciano
In his first two seasons with the Red Sox, both of which involved trips to the All-Star game, Martinez hit .317 with 79 home runs and 235 RBI.
In 2020, all of Martinez’s power seems to have been sucked right out of him, as his .231 average and two home runs are pitiful for a player of his stature. There’s certainly a correlation between the Red Sox’ poor start to 2020 and Martinez’s regression, and a trade might be in the best interests of both parties.
For all of Martinez’s struggles, players of his caliber don’t just forget how to hit. The Red Sox can capitalize on that by flipping him to a team in need of some extra pop in the lineup that is willing to trade some top prospects. the Red Sox can kick off a proper rebuild, while Martinez can get a chance to rediscover his power stroke with a contender.
