5 reasons Green Bay Packers can win the Super Bowl in 2020
4. Re-establish the tight end in the offense
Green Bay’s two-year experiment with Jimmy Graham proved to be a big-time disappointment. Of course, this is a franchise that has struggled mightily to fill the spot owned by talented but injury-prone Jermichael Finley. Over a two-year stretch from 2011-12, the formidable target hauled in a combined 116 passes for 1,434 yards and 10 touchdowns while managing to play in all 32 games.
From the likes of Andrew Quarless, Richard Rodgers and Martellus Bennett to Jared Cook, Lance Kendricks and Marcedes Lewis, the Packers haven’t quite found the answer at the position. As for Graham, his two-year stay with the franchise added up to 93 grabs, 1,083 yards and five scores in 32 regular-season contests. He did come up big vs. Seattle in last year’s playoffs when Matt LaFleur’s team needed him most. But the club opted to part ways with the former Pro Bowler for the Saints and Seahawks and he’s now a member of the rival Chicago Bears.
Lewis returns after catching 15 passes for 156 yards and one score. There’s also high hopes for 2019 third-round pick Jace Sternberger, who played in just six regular-season contests as a rookie but caught three passes, one for a score, in Green Bay’s two-game postseason run.
