Earl Thomas sent home from Ravens’ camp after fight
The Pro Bowl safety was involved in a heated argument, which resulted in him being sent home
The Baltimore Ravens have a situation on their hands at training camp. Their star safety Earl Thomas was involved in a fight with another teammate at practice. The Ravens sent Thomas home after the altercation.
According to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, Thomas was arguing on the field with safety Chuck Clark. It came after there was a missed assignment during practice. Thomas and Clark continued to yell at each other on the sidelines, in which players and coaches had to come and restrain both players. During the incident, Thomas threw up his fist as if he was ready to get physical.
Clark and Thomas were mainstays in Baltimore’s secondary last season. Clark started 10 games and led the team in tackles with 73 total tackles. Thomas started in 15 games, ranking fifth on the team with 49 total tackles.
Thomas’ fiery personality and passion got the best of him
This isn’t the first time Thomas got into a tense conversation with a Ravens teammate. There was a situation during the 2019 season where he got into a heated exchange with defensive lineman Brandon Williams after a loss against the Cleveland Browns. Teammates and coaches got in the way before the verbal confrontation turned physical.
Thomas has been known for his fiery personality throughout his career. His passion for the game along with his ball-hawking skills has made him one of the best safeties in the NFL. He is also known for letting others know how he feels, sticking up the middle finger at his former head coach Pete Carroll after suffering a season-ending leg injury in Week 4 of the 2018 season. That was his last season with the Seattle Seahawks, ending his tenure there on a sour note.
This is his second season with the Ravens after signing a four-year $52 million deal. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Thomas was not with the team when they took the practice field Saturday morning. This situation “could come to a head today” per Jason La Canfora.
