Paul George downplays offensive struggles and takes jab at James Harden

Paul George responded to criticism of his offensive struggles at the expense of James Harden.

Paul George heard all the noise about his performance Friday night in the Los Angeles Clippers 130-122 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. He finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in what was another poor shooting night for the six-time All-Star, five-time All-NBA, and four-time All-Defensive Team forward. He wanted to make it clear that he’s no James Harden. He doesn’t always have a knack for shooting the ball and scoring, but George prides himself on being effective at both ends.

According to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk, George is fully aware that he is struggling offensively but the good news is the Clippers are up 2-1 with an opportunity to earn a 3-1 lead and close the series in LA. He believes players often get too caught up in what others think. George has to work himself out of this slump, even if that seems a long way off right now.

All George has to do is play to his strengths offensively and be a pest on defense. Looking at his shot chart, he is green from the center and right corners of the perimeter where he shoots above 40 percent. On the left side, he’s green from the midrange left corner area and that same perimeter spot. If his shot isn’t working he should continue to drive the ball to the basket or get his teammates involved and rack up the assists.

Once he gets back to form, the Clippers could be a tough out moving forward in the playoffs. Should they beat the Mavericks, they will play the winner of the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz series which Utah leads 2-1.
