Brett Brown has been fired by the Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers needed to make some changes after getting dominated by the Boston Celtics in a four-game sweep, and the first order of business was redoing in their coaching staff by parting ways with Brett Brown.
Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that GM Elton Brand is shaking things up in Philadelphia by parting ways with Brown after getting embarrassed in the playoffs. The longtime San Antonio Spurs assistant was the head coach in Philly for the last seven seasons.
Brett Brown has disappointed in the playoffs in the last three seasons
While Brown only topped 19 wins once in his first four seasons as Sixers head coach during the Sam Hinkie era, more recently he rode Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid to three straight playoff appearances. The Celtics knocked them out in 2018, while Kawhi Leonard’s legendary buzzer-beater helped the Toronto Raptors take them down in the 2019 conference semis. With Simmons hurt, Josh Richardson disgruntled, and Jimmy Butler in Miami, Brown’s team didn’t even look competitive in a four-game sweep.
Brown will likely land on his feet, either in the coaching world or on TV. Whatever his qualifications, the 76ers had title aspirations in each of the last three seasons, and they came up short all three times. Something had to change, and Brown was the fall guy.
