The Los Angeles Lakers will wear Black Mamba jerseys for Game 4 vs the Trail Blazers

Monday is a somber day for the Los Angeles Lakers and their fanbase, as it’s officially “Kobe Bryant Day.” Back in January, Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven passengers tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif. The pain surrounding Bryant’s loss still lingers to this day, especially in the Lakers organization. Initially, the Lakers announced that they would wear Bryant-inspired jerseys if they advanced to the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Instead, they’ll wear them for Game 4 against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday evening.

The Lakers’ official Twitter account posted a sneak peek of the team’s Black Mamba City Edition jerseys. The “Black Mamba” uniforms will also feature a heart-shaped patch with the No. 2 to honor Gianna, who wore that number while playing for her father’s Mamba Sports Academy team.

Lakers honoring both Kobe and Gianna Bryant

We’ve seen plenty of NBA players honor the life of Bryant the past two days. This past Sunday would have been Bryant’s 42nd birthday, and the tributes poured in throughout social media. Monday, Aug. 24, is a second day of celebrating Bryant because the numerical month and day correlates with his two jersey numbers (8, 24).

The Lakers aren’t the only team that honored Bryant on Monday. Ahead of their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, members of the Houston Rockets wore Kobe-inspired apparel upon entering the Walt Disney World gymnasium pre-game.

The Lakers enter Monday night’s game with a 2-1 series lead over the Trail Blazers. After being handed a shocking loss in Game 1, Los Angeles woke up and imposed their will against Portland. LeBron James had his best game in the playoffs in Game 3 on Saturday, as he scored 38 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out eight assists in 34 minutes of action.

Los Angeles is looking to win their 17th NBA Championship in honor of Bryant, the man who brought the franchise five titles. Maybe these “Black Mamba” jerseys will bring them good luck and help them reach the NBA Finals. And you best believe that Kobe will be looking down and cheering them on.
